NYX Total Drops Foundation Review

Hey peeps!

In case anyone has either tried this foundation or is thinking about buying it here is my opinion: DO IT!!!!

I bought this foundation a couple of months ago and, I will be honest when I heard this was being released I thought that the whole idea was a gimmick! I figured that the foundation would breakdown quickly and not survive a full day of wear.  However I was surprised as it was easy to colour match (colour matched myself to perfection).

Colour match any foundation to your neck – I know it sounds crazy but as you will blend your foundation down onto your neck you will want a shade that does not show a tide line!!!!

The foundation can be applied two ways the first way is by dropping the necessary amount of foundation on to a mixing palette (Sallys Express have a mixing palette which comes with a mixing tool) and applying with a beauty sponge.  Alternatively you can drip the foundation directly onto your face using the dropper.  I apply the foundation this way as I know that I can get the correct amount of coverage for me.

When using the dropper method you have to work fast as it will continue moving down your face.  I use a buffing brush when the foundation this way as I have more control.

The foundation costs £14 for 13ml ($13.99 at Ulta if you are in America).  There are 24 shades ranging from Alabaster to Deep Espresso.  You can get the Total Drops brush to apply the foundation but if you already have a buffing brush you can use what you already have.

This product will last a long time as you don’t need a lot and when I run out I will definitely be buying again and would highly recommend getting a sample if you can to make sure that the foundation suits your skin before buying the full size.

Here are some pictures of the foundation and also a swatch so that you can see what the colour I matched myself with looks like.

Hope you enjoy this blog review and find the info helpful.

Too Faced Hydrating Face Primer Review

Hey peeps

I am now back to the usual make-up blogs!! I hope you liked the previous travel blog.

I bought the Too Faced Hydrating Primer a few months’ ago and have been using it nearly everyday since.  I will say for someone who is fussy about primers I really like this one.

One of the main reasons I like it is that it is in a pump which makes it a lot more hygienic and easier to get the product out.  The other reason I like this product is that it feels and acts as a very lightweight moisturiser.  if, like me, you have dry to combination skin then I would suggest using a very lightweight moisturiser. oh and did I mention that it smells like coconuts!!!!

Although I do have dry to combination skin I do tend to have an oily T-zone.  To combat this I use this primer in conjunction with the Make Up Forever step 1 skin equalizing mattifying primer.  This combination is only used in the summer as although I live in the North East of England it does sometime get hot – not very often though!!!!

I love how this primer makes my foundation look flawless throughout the day.  I have tried using it with NYX Total Drops Foundation and OMG my skin looked flawless (no dry patches anywhere on my face).

As I enjoy using the primer so much I will be including it in my monthly favourites blog which will be coming soon and when it runs out I will be repurchasing!

I hope you enjoy reading this short blog review of the Too Faced Primer and hopefully they will be releasing the Hydrating Setting Spray in the UK soon and I will review that if anyone is interested.

Happy reading peeps

Vacation at the Ashbury Hotel

Hey peeps,

Change of blog as I am currently on holiday I have decided to do blog whilst staying at the hotel. Here we go:-

My parents and I travelled from Newcastle upon Tyne on a 9 and a half hour car journey stopping at various service stations on the way.  If you are going to be travelling a long distance I would strongly suggest splitting the journey in two parts and staying overnight at a Travelodge en route.

When you arrive at the Ashbury Hotel you will be able to check in at 3 pm and the people on reception are very helpful and polite.  The rooms at the Ashbury Hotel are located in individual buildings – my room and my parents’ room were located in the Moorview Building.  All the rooms are smart and offer the necessary tea and coffee facilities and a television.  If a member of your part is disabled and you have advised them at the time of booking they are happy to accommodate – my mother is disabled and they arranged for my parents to have ground floor room with a shower.

Breakfast, lunch and evening meal are provided by the hotel.  If you have any dietary requirements such as you are on a gluten-free diet they will accommodate.  All meals are provided as a buffet service.

For breakfast you can choose either cereal or a cooked breakfast.  If you are really hungry in the morning you can have both.  When you get your breakfast you will be asked if you want tea or coffee.  If, like me, you always have to start your day with coffee I would suggest sticking to it.

For lunch you have a choice of either a hot lunch or a salad and there is always a very good selection to choose from.

For evening meal there is always a daily menu which is placed near the bar/lounge area or alternatively there is an A La Carté menu which is also available to choose from.

After dinner you can go to the bar and relax.  There is always a varied evening entertainment provided and the information about this can be found by reception.

The Ashbury Hotel is aimed mainly at golfers and golfing groups/societies whereas the Manor House Hotel is aimed mainly at families.  If, however, you are interested in crafts & spa breaks then I would suggest either hotel.  The Ashbury Hotel has some crafts whereas the Manor House Hotel has the majority of crafts.

Both hotels offer health and beauty treatments together with a Hydro Spa.  The beauty treatments range from body treatments and massages to nail treatments using Gelish or Jessica.  They also offer Holistic Therapies such as Hopi Ear Candles and Hot Stones Massage.  There are also treatments offered for men ranging from body wraps to foot and hand treatments.  Each treatment lasts between 30 minutes to an hour and are very reasonably priced.  If you are wanting to have any treatments whilst on holiday I would very strongly suggest pre-booking them as availability can fill up extremely quickly.

From a golfer’s point of view (this opinion was given  by my dad who is a golfer) the golf facilities are excellent.  There are multiple courses (6 18 hole courses and one 18 hole par 3 course).  In total there are 27 holes of golf which are free everyday.  Buggy hire is available at reasonable prices often 1/2 price or less depending on the season and are booked at the pro shop which is always well stocked.  Buggy hire is compulsory on the Kigbeare course due to the distance between holes.

There is a variety of other sporting activities available for those who do not play golf at both hotels.  These include the following:-

  1. Archery
  2. Air Rifles
  3. Air Pistols
  4. Laser Clays
  5. Swimming
  6. Tennis
  7. Indoor Carpet Bowls (this is offered at the Manor House Hotel)
  8. Ice Rink (this is available at the Manor House Hotel)
  9. Roller Skating Rink (this is available at the Manor House Hotel)

There is also a gym at the Ashbury Hotel and at the Manor House Hotel which are well equipped with all the usual gym equipment such as treadmills, cross trainers and weights.

Christmas breaks are always held at the Manor House Hotel and are always well-organised and a lot of fun!

I have been coming to the Manor House Hotel since 2000 and my parents have been coming to both hotels since 1994.

If you are looking for a golfing break or a craft/spa break I can highly recommend the Manor House Hotel and Ashbury Hotel.  If you are looking for a good family orientated hotel I would recommend the Manor House Hotel.  The facilities for families at the Manor House Hotel are excellent and on par with those of Centre Parcs.  The reason for this comparison is purely because you are also able to go on guided walks across Dartmoor, hire bicycles or enjoy horse riding at the local stables.

If you are looking for a base to enable you to explore Devon and Cornwall then you definitely cannot go wrong with the Manor House Hotel and Ashbury Hotel.

Here are some pictures of the location of the hotel, golf course (Kigbeare) and surrounding area.

I hope you enjoy this blog and please remember that all opinions in this blog are either my own or my dad’s and 100% unbiased.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Foundation Review

Hey Peeps

Estée Lauder have released a new version of their Double Wear Foundation.  This new version is called “Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Foundation”.

I first used this foundation the day after I purchased it from John Lewis in Newcastle upon Tyne and was pleasantly surprised.  I wasn’t expecting a lot from the foundation apart from the long wearing aspect as everyone knows how the original double wear foundation is long-lasting.  This foundation lasted all day (I wore it from 10.30 am until I went to bed).  The way they colour match is very similar to the way No. 7 colour match. They use a device which they place against your forehead, cheek and chin and it will colour match you sometimes even between colours (I was colour matched between Bone and Cool Bone and decided to go with Bone as it was closer to the colour of my neck).

I have found in the past that some long wearing foundations irritate my skin but this feels so light it is like you are not wearing any foundation at all.  The only issue I have, and it is a minor one, is that it does not come with a pump.  This would be extremely useful as it is a very liquidy foundation.  If you do buy the foundation I would strongly advise you to buy a separate pump.

As I work in an office during the week make up usually lasts until lunchtime and I will have to touch up.  However with this foundation it doesn’t breakdown and it definitely lasts all day!

If you are looking for a new lightweight, long-lasting foundation and have the money to spend on a high end foundation (this foundation costs £32.00) you cannot go wrong with Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation.

Here are some pictures of the product.

This foundation can be purchased at any department store that sells Estée Lauder such as John Lewis, Debenhams or Fenwicks.

If you want a light coverage I would suggest using a damp beauty sponge.  However, if you are wanting a medium coverage I would suggest using a foundation or buffing brush.  Personally, I prefer a light coverage during the day so I always apply the foundation with the damp beauty sponge.

I hope you like this blog and find the tips and review useful.

See you soon peeps!

Kat Von D Contour lesson Blog

Hi guys

As with probably everyone out there who uses makeup I find contouring difficult, mainly the nose contour (it is usually too light to make any difference).  I was lucky enough to be able to have a contour lesson with Brooke at the Kat Von D makeup counter in Debenhams at the Metro centre.

What Brooke showed me made all my issues and fear about contouring seem ridiculous.  She showed me that it is all about light and shade.  I’ll explain how Brooke taught me to do contour.

Here we go:

After you apply your foundation you apply the highlight.  Firstly in a “V” under your eyes, and along the top of your cheekbone, just above your jawline as this will uplift your jawline and in between your eyebrows.  Then blend it so that it looks seamless (blending is so important!).  Then add your contour.

Firstly apply to your temples, then from the top of your ear, going in a line towards the corner of your mouth (do not go all the way! Stop about a third of the way), then underneath your jawline and finally on your nose.  Then again blend.  If you think it is too heavy don’t worry it can be lightened with translucent powder.  The trick to nose contour is to remember the following:-

Highlight the centre of your nose

Contour the sides of your nose

After everything has been blended and you are happy set everything with a translucent powder.  Don’t panic all your work will not be wasted because then you start using contour and highlight powder.  All you need to do with the powder is go over where you blended your cream contour and cream highlight.

Then set everything with a setting spray (I would recommend either the Glamglow setting spray or the Make Up Forever Mist and Fix setting spray – both are available as full size or travel size).

I have included some pictures of my make up after Brook had finished the contour lesson.

Highlight the sides of your nose (corner of the eye)

Then contour around the outer area of your nose.

When you go to a makeup counter no matter the brand and you are not sure:-

  1. a) If a foundation will suit your skin type or skin colour;

  1. b) You are not sure how to do something just ask someone. They will be more than happy to colour match you to the right shade of foundation and if there is something you are not sure of they will be happy to help.

Hope you find these tips helpful.

See you soon xoxo

Arbonne Product Review

I have tried the Arbonne skincare and make up products for the past two or three days and I can say that I would highly recommend the skincare (I have had no reactions whatsoever) however the same cannot be said for the make up.  Anyway here are my opinion starting with skincare.  Here is a picture of what you receive when doing a product trial

 Arbonne Review

I have tried this for two or three days now and here are my thoughts:

Arbonne exfoliator

I found the exfoliator very easy to use.  The exfoliating beads are small and gentle and a small amount goes a long way (you only need a pea size amount of product).  You do have to massage in circular motions and you may feel a slight tingling or heat sensation but it is nothing to worry about it just means that the product has been activated properly.  I would suggest using a face cloth to remove the product afterwards and pat your face dry (never rub your face dry).  Your skin will be left smooth and soft afterwards.

Arbonne cleanser

This product is very liquidity and a little goes along way.  It lathers up very nicely and is very gentle on your skin.  Since using the cleanser/toner I have noticed that any breakouts I have are now less than before and once again it left my skin very soft and you will need to remove it with a face cloth/muslin cloth.

Oil Control Day lotion

Arbonne oil control lotion

As I have combination skin (dry skin and oily T Zone) I was not expecting much from this lotion but I was pleasantly surprised from the first day of using it.  Although this product you do use morning and night it is extremely light and leaves your skin really soft.  It is absorbed really quickly and does not leave a greasy feeling behind which is great as your primer will sit perfectly on top.

Mattifying Powder

Arbonne Mattifying powder

This product is to be used after your moisturiser in the morning and before your primer.  If you want to this as a setting powder you can do (I did with the foundation and the CC Cream).  The one thing I will say about this powder is that it certainly keeps your foundation (or any base) matt all day.  I usually have to blot during the day as it can get quite warm (even for the UK) in the summer sometimes so I normally have to blot at least once or twice a day and with this I didn’t need to at all.

Now onto the Make up which I didn’t have such a good time with.

Arbonne primer

This product is Paraben free, Vegan and Cruelty Free (as are all their products).  I tried it and I will admit it did leave my skin feeling velvety smooth and my foundation did go on smoothly.  However, when it comes to making the foundation last all day that it does not do! I found that my foundation broke down in my T Zone as usual but also, surprisingly on my cheek which I have never had with any other foundation.  I can only assume that my skin did not like either the primer or the foundation (which is also by Arbonne).

Arbonne foundation

The foundation is quite thick and does go on very nicely and you will only need one to one and a half pumps. The only issue I personally have with this product is that it did break down on my quite quickly (by about 11 am it had started to breakdown on me – I had applied the make up at about 6.30 in the morning so it last approximately five hours before breaking down).

CC Cream

Arbonne CC Cream

Regarding this product most of my opinions of this are the same as for the foundation except that when it started to breakdown it left a ring around my nose down to my chin which is very strange and never happened before either.

In conclusion I would highly recommend the Arbonne skincare but when it comes to the makeup I would not recommend (this is my personal opinion).

If you want to find out more about Arbonne or do a two/three day product trial and you are in the North East of England then I would suggest contacting Ashleigh Dyson on Instagram @ashdyson3 or facebook at AshleighDysonBusiness.  Her website is AshleighDyson.arbonne.com.

Hope you find this review useful and if you do go for the trial I hope you enjoy the products.
